This policy explains what data Roulettly processes and how. Our principle: collect as little as possible.
1. What we never do
We never record your video or audio. Video conversations flow directly between participants' devices (peer to peer) whenever the network allows it. When a direct connection cannot be established, the encrypted stream passes through a relay server that forwards it without storing it. In both cases nothing is recorded and no conversation is kept.
2. Data processed
- Technical identifier and nickname: to link you to a session and, if you choose, to a profile (avatar, interests).
- Preferences: language, settings, credits.
- Technical data: device type and connection logs, for security and proper operation.
3. Moderation and reports
An automatic filter analyses the image from your own camera to detect nudity. If explicit content is found, your video is cut immediately and moderation is notified.
Where that analysis happens depends on the version you use. On the website it runs entirely on your device: no image ever reaches us, and only numeric scores are sent if something is detected. In the iOS and Android apps the phone is not fast enough to run it without making calls unusable, so a small thumbnail of your own camera is sent to our server every few seconds, analysed in memory and discarded immediately: it is never written to disk, never kept, and never viewable by anyone. Only the numeric scores are stored.
When a stranger is reported, a snapshot may be kept temporarily as evidence, then automatically deleted after a short period, in order to handle the report and protect users.
4. Advertising
The app may display ads (Google AdMob) that let you earn credits. The ad provider may use identifiers for measurement. You can limit ad tracking in your device settings.
5. Analytics
We use privacy-friendly analytics (Umami), cookieless and without individual profiling.
6. Retention
Profile data is kept while you use the service. Evidence linked to a report is kept for a limited time. You can request deletion of your data at any time.
7. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete and object to the processing of your data. To exercise it, email [email protected]. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL, www.cnil.fr).
8. Age
The service is reserved for people aged 18 and over.
