That is all. There is no e-mail address attached to it, no profile page, no photo gallery, no bio and no history of past chats for them to browse. When you press next, the person you were talking to has nothing left to look up.

The nickname is yours to decide. The field is called Your nickname, it is optional, and you can change it for every session. If you leave it empty, you are simply someone on camera.

One honest limit worth stating: the video itself shows whatever your camera points at. Before you press Start, look at your own preview. A name on a poster, a letter on a desk or a street sign through the window can say more about you than any profile would. Adjust the angle first, and keep personal details out of the frame.

A moderated chat, and 18 and over only

Roulettly is reserved for adults. The checkbox "I'm 18 or older and I accept" sits on the start screen and has to be ticked before the Start button works. The terms of use say the same thing in full.

The service is moderated, and the rules are applied by tools as well as by people. Nudity detection runs on your own device, on your own camera: if it spots explicit content, it goes straight to our moderation team, which can ban the account.

On every encounter you also have report and block within reach. A report goes to our moderation team, which reviews it. Block someone and that is the end of it for you. These buttons are there from the first second, so using them never feels like a big decision.

If a conversation turns uncomfortable, pressing next costs nothing. You do not owe anyone an explanation.
