Why on-device detection is not a detail
Chatroulette writes that video samples are analysed by automated moderation systems. That kind of moderation works, and it means frames leave your computer to be examined somewhere else.
Roulettly does the opposite: the detection model runs in your browser, on your own stream, and cuts the camera before anything is sent. Nothing to analyse elsewhere, because nothing leaves. The cost of that choice is real and worth stating: a local model is lighter than a server one, which is why human reporting sits next to it.
Moderation, as numbers
Five distinct people reporting the same account suspend it for 24 hours. Three distinct reports inside fifteen minutes do the same, because a burst of complaints in a short window is a stronger signal than the same count spread over a week. Nudity detection runs on your own device, on your own camera, and cuts your video before anything is sent.

Peer-to-peer, and the honest exception
A signalling server introduces two strangers. After that, video and audio travel straight from one device to the other, for every match by default.
One exception, stated rather than hidden: some networks make a direct connection impossible, a company firewall, a campus filter, a router doing symmetric NAT. The encrypted stream then passes through a relay that forwards it without being able to read it. Nothing is recorded in either case.
