Random video chat, explained in one minute
A random video chat connects two people who do not know each other, live, on camera. You do not choose a profile from a list and you do not swipe: you press a button and the next available person appears. If the conversation clicks, you keep talking. If not, you press Next and someone else appears.
That simplicity is the whole point. There is no message to write first, no photo to approve and no waiting for a reply. You see a face, you hear a voice, and within a few seconds you know whether you want to stay.
Only Roulettly is described here: the name in the title is simply what you typed, and nothing below describes another service.
How Roulettly picks the person opposite you
When you press Start, you join the search. Matching gives priority to someone who speaks the same language as you, among the 20 languages of the interface. If you added interests under "What you are into", it also tries to find someone who shares them.
None of these preferences is a wall. If nobody matches them at that moment, you are still connected to someone else, so the search never stays stuck on a detail. How long it takes depends on how many people are online.

Everything happens on the first screen, in your browser.
Allow your camera
Your browser asks for access to the camera and the microphone. You accept and see your own preview before anyone else does.
Say who you are
Under "You are", choose Woman or Man. Under "I want to talk to", leave Everyone, which costs nothing. A nickname and interests are optional.
Tick the box and start
Tick "I'm 18 or older and I accept", then press Start. When someone appears, say hello; when you want to move on, press Next.
A first conversation that goes well

Every call goes through an encrypted relay
A signalling server introduces two strangers. After that, video and audio go from your device to our relay, then to the other person's device, for every match.
The stream stays end-to-end encrypted by WebRTC: the relay only forwards encrypted packets, and can neither read nor store them. The other person never receives your IP address, only the relay's. The conversation itself is not recorded.
Free, and what Premium adds
The basic chat is free and asks for no account, no email and no phone number. Premium, optional, lets you talk only to women or only to men and adds Strict mode, which never widens the search. It requires an e-mail account and comes in 1, 6 or 12 month plans, with no commitment.
