The first thing to check: what you can do

On Roulettly the answer fits in three buttons that stay on screen during every call: Next, Block and Report. You do not need an account to use any of them, and you never have to justify pressing one.

Next: the call is just not for you
No chemistry, no shared language, or simply not in the mood. Press Next and the search starts again. Nobody is told why.
Block: you never want to meet them again
Pick how long: 1 hour, 1 day, 2 days, 7 days or forever. Until the block ends, the matching keeps the two of you apart.
Report: something is wrong
Choose a reason, such as harassment or hate, spam, violence or someone who looks like a minor. Our moderation team reviews reports, and accounts reported by several people get suspended.
Strict mode, when you know who you want to talk to
The free setting of "I want to talk to" is Everyone. With Premium, optional, you can pick Women or Men instead. Strict mode, also part of Premium, goes one step further: it never widens the search. You leave Roulettly open in the background, and you are notified as soon as someone matching your choice is found.
Premium requires an e-mail account and comes in 1, 6 or 12 month plans, with no commitment. The filter works from the gender each person indicates on the first screen. None of this is needed for the basic chat, which stays free and without an account.
What the other person can and cannot see
They see your video and hear your sound. They see your nickname if you chose one in "Your nickname", the gender you indicated and the flag of your country.
They do not see your email, because the basic chat never asks for one, and there is no profile page to dig through. Roulettly is reserved for adults aged 18 and over: before you start, you tick the box saying that you are 18 or older and that you accept the terms.
Every call goes through an encrypted relay
A signalling server introduces two strangers. After that, video and audio go from your device to our relay, then to the other person's device, for every match.
The stream stays end-to-end encrypted by WebRTC: the relay only forwards encrypted packets, and can neither read nor store them. The other person never receives your IP address, only the relay's. The conversation itself is not recorded.

Is my video recorded?
The conversation is not recorded. Video and audio go through our encrypted relay, which only forwards packets it cannot read and stores nothing. Moderation is the exception and covers only your own camera, as the privacy policy explains.
