Two choices before the first call
A random video chat is only as good as the people it puts in front of you. So the first screen of Roulettly asks you two simple things before anything starts: who you are, and who you want to talk to.
This page only describes Roulettly. It does not judge or describe any other service, whatever its name.
How the choice works
Two settings on the first screen.
"You are": Female or Male
You indicate your gender. This is what other people see next to your video, and what the Premium filter relies on.
"I want to talk to": Everyone
The free setting. You meet anyone who is available, in a fully random order. No account, no payment.
"I want to talk to": Women or Men
A Premium option. You only meet people who indicated that gender. The filter is based on what each person chose, nothing more.
Strict mode: wait for the right match
Normally, if nobody matches your choice right away, the search can widen. Strict mode, part of Premium, never does. You leave Roulettly in the background and get a notification when someone matching your choice is found.
Premium is optional and needs an account with an email address. Plans last 1, 6 or 12 months, with no commitment. The free chat does not change: it stays without an account and without an email.
What the other person sees
They see your video, hear your sound and see the flag of your country. If you typed one in "Your nickname", they see it too, along with the gender you indicated. There is no profile page behind it.
Roulettly is reserved for adults aged 18 and over. Before you start, you tick "I am 18 or older and I accept" the terms.
Every call goes through an encrypted relay
A signalling server introduces two strangers. After that, video and audio go from your device to our relay, then to the other person's device, for every match.
The stream stays end-to-end encrypted by WebRTC: the relay only forwards encrypted packets, and can neither read nor store them. The other person never receives your IP address, only the relay's. The conversation itself is not recorded.
Moderation
Reporting and blocking are on every match. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. It is a random video chat reserved for adults aged 18 and over.
